Op de cover van haar album ‘Take It with You’(2018) was het al duidelijk te zien: Katie Knipp is geen katje om zonder handschoenen aan te pakken. Of misschien wil ze er alleen maar super stoer uitzien (cowgirl, wilde jurk, stoere cowboylaarzen) en is ze eigenlijk verlegen en heeft ze een bescheiden karakter. Maar als je haar zo links en rechts hoort praten, valt het wel mee met die ingetogenheid en bescheidenheid. Ze staat haar mannetje (zo heet dat nou eenmaal) en op haar nieuwe single Chamomile and Cocaine gromt, grauwt en bijt ze je toe dat ze je komt pakken. Het lied gaat over kamille en cocaïne.

Het nummer start met een forse sax, binnen de kortste keren aangevuld met hamerende toetsen een ronkend orgel, felle sologitaar en natuurlijk die stem. Minder bluesy, meer dikke funky New Orleansrock.
Het maakt Chamomile and Cocaine een interessante opmaat naar een nieuw album, zoveel is duidelijk. Ben benieuwd! De eerste opbrengsten van de single gaan naar de NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. ,een Amerikaanse organisatie die strijdt voor ‘racial justice’ (https://www.naacpldf.org)
