Following on from the critically acclaimed What Did I Come Up Here For? (2015), the veteran 77 year old Cornish-born mid-Wales-based singersongwriter Andrew Hawkey unveils ‘Long Story Short’, his new ten-song CD, reflecting his concerns, both personal and universal, in a classic smallband folk, singer-songwriter, Americana vein.

‘Long Story Short’ was recorded May-October at Addaband Studio, Mochdre, Powys, in collaboration with engineer/producer and talented multi-instrumentalist Clovis Phillips (currently a key member of Jeb Loy Nichols & the Westwood All-Stars); his impressive CV includes recording sessions and tours with Texas’s Jerry DeCicca, Nashville country songwriter legend Gail Davies, Welsh harpist Harriet Earis, the Beth Prior Collective, zydeco star Corey Ledet, Louisiana’s Courtney Granger, the Flatville Aces, bluesman Wayne Martin, and many more), and UK pedalsteel wizard David Rothon David Rothon David Rothon David Rothon (Redlands Palomino Company, Emily Barker).

Comprising eight originals, ranging from the country-rock bar-room nugget Golden Heart (on a Rusty Chain), via the relaxed country-meets-soul Jones on Me, the atmospheric ballad ‘Spirit’, to the dystopian postclimate-crisis epic Stony Land, the album also features a concise and moving song by Zoe Spencer, and a respectful reworking of the late Bob Carpenter’s The Believer from his sole, revered ‘Silent Passage LP.

The CD’s cover portrait, artwork and layout is by Andrew’s good friend, cult musician/writer/artist Jeb Loy Nichols. An 8-page lyric booklet completes the package.
