Multiple award-winner AJ PLUG is een absolute topper uit de Nederlandse blues rock en roots scène. Zangeres AJ Plug (Alexandra Jolanda) wordt gezien als één van de meest indrukwekkende blues-rock ladies die de Nederlandse blues rock en roots scène de laatste jaren heeft voortgebracht. Naast de optredens van haar eigen band tourde AJ Plug ook mee in ‘Dutch TV Celebrity’ Johan Derksens theatershow, ‘Johan Derksen keeps the Blues Alive’, die in bijna alle theaters in Nederland was te zien.

AFSCHEIDSTOUR 2024 – 50 jaar BARRELHOUSE
In 50 jaar meer dan 2000 concerten, steeds in dezelfde bezetting.
Wat begon met een jamsessie op een zondagmiddag in Alkmaar en een eerste optreden in Mahogany Hall in Edam in 1974, groeide uit tot een band met een enorme live reputatie. Gedurende 50 jaar heeft Barrelhouse 12 albums en een DVD opgenomen. In 2017 kreeg het album Almost There een Edison. In 2019 is verzamelbox 45 Years on the Road uitgekomen die ook werd bekroond met een Edison.
Voor het 50-jarig bestaan blijft het motto ongewijzigd: enthousiasme en opwinding alsof het een eerste optreden is. Dit altijd met de prachtige krachtige en warme stem van Tineke, met een achteloze technische beheersing van John en Guus, fel hamerend, stuwend piano van Han, en het zowel krachtige en opzwepende, als subtiele ritme van Bob en Jan Willem. Dus: geen zaal te klein, geen festival te groot. En dat gaan we in 2024 nog één keer doen, de laatste tour: op nieuwe podia en natuurlijk op de podia waar we graag kwamen, zoals Ribs & Blues!
BERTOLF (NL)
Wat erin zit, moet eruit komen. Dat slaat niet op het onmiskenbare talent van de Zwolse singer/songwriter Bertolf, maar op een belangrijke muzikale keuze die hij maakt. Want na zes albums krijgt zijn liefde voor ‘bluegrass’ voor het eerst op album ruim baan. Vanaf zijn prilste jeugd luistert en speelt hij al deze ‘puur natuur’ akoestische countryvariant, waar je door de vereiste vingervlugheid blauwe vingers van krijgt. ‘Bluefinger’ heet zijn ‘Best Of’-album met zijn favoriete nummers door de jaren heen plus enkele nieuwe. Die titel hint natuurlijk ook naar de bijnaam van Zwollenaren in de geschiedenis. Voor de opnames toog hij naar Nashville om te werken met erkende keien uit het genre.
De aanleiding van dit speciale bluegrass-project, waar ook de Zwolse popzaal Hedon een ‘blauwe vinger’ in de pap heeft gehad, zat hem in de uitdagende vraag die hem werd voorgelegd: ‘Welke droom zou je het liefst een keer verwezenlijken?’ Daar hoefde hij niet lang over na te denken. Die droom had hij al zo lang. ‘Een bluegrassplaat maken in Nashville,’ luidde zijn antwoord.

DAWN BROTHERS (NL)
Wie de Dawn Brothers aan het werk ziet, wordt onherroepelijk meegezogen in de muzikale wervelwind die over het podium raast. Het gaat alle kanten op, waarbij rock, folk, blues en soul ogenschijnlijk moeiteloos worden vermengd tot een onweerstaanbare cocktail. Het is dat prikkelende ‘wat gebeurt hier allemaal’-gevoel dat maakt dat je zélf onderdeel van deze Rotterdamse band zou willen zijn. Een band die perfect op elkaar is ingespeeld, spelplezier uitstraalt en waarbij de liefde voor de muziek door elke ader giert.
De Dawn Brothers passen met hun no-nonsense mentaliteit naadloos in de Rotterdamse ‘niet lullen maar poetsen’-community. Maar vergis je niet. Ze mogen dan nonchalant lijken, hun hedendaagse interpretatie van rootsmuziek bewijst dat hier een groep muzikanten staat die verdomd goed weet waar ze mee bezig zijn. Dat blijkt ook uit hun nieuwe plaat, ‘Alpine Gold’, die dit najaar verschijnt bij Excelsior Recordings en waarop de band een dik pak hekserij loslaat op hun publiek.

JAX HOLLOW (USA)
Jax Hollow is an untamable force of nature. Hailing from Nashville by way of Montague Massachusetts, The Berklee College Of Music graduate is bringing a much needed revival to rock with her fresh innocence and serious talent.
Jax’s sound is a unique blend of Classic Rock, Blues, and Americana; combined with songwriting, riffs, ripping solos, and powerful vocals. Featured Guitar World Magazine, and Rolling Stone France, she received a standing ovation after opening for Melissa Etheridge at The Ryman Auditorium as a solo act on July 30th 2023, to which Melissa replied after her performance that she “Wanted to be the one known for discovering Jax Hollow first”
Her debut EP, “Underdog Anthems” was produced and engineered by music legend Michael Wagener (over 100 million records sold), adding her name to his long legacy before his retirement in 2022. With the release of her first full length record, “Only The Wild Ones” on May 5th 2023, her name has been circling music city with raving reviews. “Only The Wild Ones”, was championed by Sound Emporium CEO, Juanita Copeland, and released May 5th, 2023.

From the moment Philip Sayce first put his hands on a guitar neck, he never let go. Malcolm Gladwell theorized that “greatness” requires 10,000 hours of practical training. A teenage Sayce had easily surpassed this threshold when his hometown hero, legendary guitarist and multi-platinum artist Jeff Healey, caught Sayce playing a ferocious set in downtown Toronto.
Within a year, Sayce was touring internationally with Jeff Healey’s band and performing at the world’s most prestigious festivals. Since that time, Sayce has put in multiples of that 10,000 hours, recording and touring for four years with musical icon Melissa Etheridge, then launching a solo career and establishing a rabid fan base in Europe and beyond, opening shows for the likes of ZZ Top and Deep Purple. Sayce is a rare artist, a combination of outstanding songwriter, unparalleled guitarist, soulful singer, and electrifying performer.

Popa Chubby and the Beast Band bring heavy blues rock on a new live double CD set
Gulf Coast Records announces September 8 release date for Live at G. Bluey’s Juke Joint NYC, the label debut live double-CD set from New York City-based blues guitar slinger Popa Chubby’s (aka “The Beast from the East”). The album’s first single, “Motorcycle Mama,” and its accompanying video will be available on July 21, as will the album’s digital pre-order.
The new album was recorded at G. Bluey’s Juke Joint in Long Island City, New York, on October 24 and 25, 2022, and features Popa Chubby (guitar and vocals), backed by his all-star “Beast Band,” which consists of Mike Merritt – bass (Conan O’Brien, Billy Gibbons); Mike Dimeo – keyboards (Johnny Winter, Tommy James); and Stefano Giudici – drums

ROBBERT DUIJF BAND (NL)
Hij brengt zijn muziek puur, oprecht en vol passie. Zijn stem is puur en vol overgave. Door vanuit zijn hart te zingen en te spelen, maakt hij een diepe verbinding met zijn publiek. In zijn shows als soloartiest, duo of met zijn band, vertelt hij verhalen met een boodschap. Samen zingen, lachen, klappen en ook een traan wegvegen, muziek die verbindt en je goed laat voelen.

“De term gospelmuziek ontstond waarschijnlijk in de jaren 20. Op de katoenvelden was het voor de slaven niet toegestaan om met elkaar te praten, zingen mochten ze echter wel. Zo ontstonden liederen van hoop en bemoediging, ze werden verrijkt met ritmische invloeden uit de blues. Gospelmuziek wordt gekarakteriseerd door geïmproviseerde, verhalende passages en extravagante expressiviteit. De overdracht van gevoelens, de eigenheid van de zanger, zijn durf om zich bloot te geven dankzij de herkenning en ondersteuning van de toehoorders, dat is wat gospel-blues in zijn puurste vorm inhoudt. Dat is ook wat gospel-blues onderscheidt van andere muziekgenres, het roept een gemeenschapsgevoel op en zorgt voor verbinding.”

A young Sean Webster’s life dramatically changed when a friend introduced him to the likes of the music by the blues greats. The three Kings, Albert, BB, and Freddy, as well Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Gary Moore and the primary reason for Sean playing the guitar, the legendary Eric Clapton. Sean’s passion for guitar and his dedication to music since has continued to grow to an almost fevered obsession. That thirst for music has led to the creation of six studio albums and taken Webster on a touring life across America and Europe taking in many of the Blues-Rock scenes leading venues and festivals.

Among the most inventive and influential bands in the history of popular music, 10cc are one of the very few acts to have achieved commercial, critical and creative success in equal measure.
Testament to 10cc’s ongoing appeal, the band can count a generation straddling array of fellow artists, from Axl Rose to Sophie Ellis Bextor and Chrissie Hynde to The Feeling’s Dan Gillespie among their millions of fans.
I’m Not In Love, written by Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart, features prominently in the soundtrack to the 2014 blockbuster film Guardians of the Galaxy, which spawned a No 1 album. Meanwhile, a key element of the soundtrack to 2010’s The Social Network, about the creation of Facebook, is Dreadlock Holiday, which also became the Sky Sports cricket theme in Australia.
10cc has sold more than 30 million albums around the world and the band’s longevity is testament to their timeless songs, as is their continuing to traverse the globe and play countries as disparate as Iceland and South Africa, Latvia and Japan, as well as across Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Canada and the US.
Founder member Gouldman attributes 10cc’s lasting appeal to the quality and individuality of the band’s songs. “They don’t seem to date; they are original, we never followed any trend we simple wrote for our own pleasure. The fact that the songs are being played as often on the radio today as they ever were shows how true that is,” he says.
10cc ruled the pop world at a time – the 1970s – when the charts were dominated by some of the most creative and colourful artists in pop history.
Unlike David Bowie, Queen, Elton John or Rod Stewart – all of whom they stood shoulder-to-shoulder with for a decade – 10cc’s energies were not centred on image or celebrity-status, but on creating highly sophisticated rock masterworks with mainstream appeal.

CATFISH (UK)
Catfish are one of the UK’s most exciting blues-rock powerhouses on the circuit today. They have quickly established themselves on the scene as one to watch. The band features multi award winning Matt Long on guitar and vocals, his father Paul Long on keyboards and vocals, Adam Pyke on bass and internationally acclaimed drummer Kev Hickman.
The band has released three studio albums, a live album and also released an acoustic EP following their successful livestreams during lockdown.
The band has been making waves in the last few years, with regular tours and festivals appearances in the UK, Europe and the USA and have established themselves as a real force in the British blues scene.

NEAL FRANCIS (USA)

ROBERT FINLEY (USA)
Finley groeide op in Lousiana. Toen hij een jaar of tien was kreeg hij van z’n vader geld om een nieuw paar schoenen te kopen, maar kwam in plaats daarvan thuis met een gitaar. Door optredens van lokale gospelgroepen te bezoeken, en nauwlettend de vingers van de gitarist in de gaten te houden, leerde hij spelen. In 1970 ging hij in dienst en trok met een legerband dwars door Europa. Bij zijn terugkeer naar Louisiana ging hij werken als timmerman en was leider van de groep Brother Finley and the Gospel Sisters. Tot hij vanwege een oogziekte blind werd, en gedwongen was om te stoppen met timmeren. Hij ging verder als straatmuzikant en werd zo ontdekt door de Music Maker Foundation, een organisatie die oudere bluesmuzikanten ondersteunt.
Met zijn diepe stem weet Finley iedereen te raken. Met het grootste gemak schakelt hij van hoog naar laag, van falset naar bariton. Uniek!

JAKE LA BOTZ (USA)
Singer/songwriter Jake La Botz plays roots-drenched music that reflects his time performing in streets, bars, churches, and even tattoo parlors. You can also hear the various places La Botz has lived in his music — including his time in New Orleans, the Mississippi Delta, and his native Chicago where, as a young man, he found kinship with some of the last of the pre-war era bluesmen: David “Honeyboy” Edwards, “Homesick” James, and “Maxwell Street” Jimmy Davis. In 2017 and 2019 Jake released his studio albums Sunnyside and They’re Coming for Me on Hi-Style Records to critical acclaim. Produced by Jimmy Sutton, both albums won Independent Music Awards. Jake has toured extensively in the U.S. and Europe and has shared the stage with Ray Charles, Etta James, Dr. John, Mavis Staples, JD McPherson, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, Tony Joe White, Low Cut Connie and a host of other greats.

THE SEATSNIFFERS (BE)
De Seatsniffers spelen hun eigen soort Rock & Roll. Inspiratie wordt gehaald uit het schemergebied tussen zwarte R&B en zwarte Rock&Roll, en een rijkdom aan andere vroege Amerikaanse Roots-stijlen zoals Rockabilly, C&W, Tex-Mex, Surf enzovoorts. Voeg hier een serieuze scheut “Punky” attitude aan toe en je krijgt een idee waar de band voor staat. Het repertoire bestaat vooral uit eigen nummers, maar er is plaats voor covers van Roy Brown, Johnny Otis, Jimmy Mc Cracklin, Ray Sharpe etc.
Een concert van The SeatSniffers bestaat uit korte, heftige nummers, en typische Gitaar-Baritonsaxriffs, veel zweet en beweging. Wie een raakpunt zoekt met modernere bands kan het best luisteren naar Barrence Whitfield & The Savages, The Blasters, de R&R van Los Lobos, The Reverend Horton Heat, Southern Culture on the Skids, en The Paladins.
