Ben Bedford is een songwriter in de traditie van muzikale iconen als Bill Morrissey en Woody Guthrie, en beschrijft individuen en hun rol in het theater van het Amerikaanse landschap. Bedford is een echte zoon uit het Amerikaanse Heartland, put regelmatig uit de klassieken van de Amerikaanse literatuur en schrijft met de ‘oude ziel’-kwaliteit van zijn literaire idolen als John Steinbeck en Toni Morrison.
Rich Warren, folk DJ in Chicago en toonaangevend in de USA folkwereld, noemde Ben een van de “50 belangrijkste Folk singer-songwriters van de afgelopen 50 jaar”. Die lijst bevat ook Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Anais Mitchell, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot en John Prine.
In Mei 2018 werd Ben Bedford winnaar van de prestigieuze Kerrville New Folk competition. Een eer die hij deelt met voorgaande winnaars Robert Earl Keen, James McMurtry, Diana Jones, Anais Mitchell, Danny Schmidt, Jonathan Byrd, John Gorka en Pierce Pettis.
