A month ago New Zealand opened it’s borders for the first time in 2 years. The week they did, I was on a plane to Luck Reunion to perform at Willie’s ranch in Texas! I flew in my brother Todd from Canada, who has shot all of my videos, to join me and bring his camera.
We had one day off in between shows and spent it shooting on the Old Western town set from Willie’s “Red Headed Stranger” film, where Luck Reunion is held. Filming in the chapel, with the special memorial to Bobbie Nelson gracing the front, felt sacred and really overwhelmed me with emotion. This song was written about the loss of my Dad, but, with the loss of Willie’s beloved Sister Bobbie the week before Luck Reunion, it took on even more meaning to perform it with Willie and I really wanted to honor her as well. I love that we were able to preserve some of the flowers and tributes people left there for her.
The following night, we filmed my performance with Willie when he joined me onstage to perform “Beyond the Stars” in my set, while opening his show, a moment I will never forget as long as I live.
